You can use any x86 based bare-metal servers. ECOS support both Intel and AMD processors. ECOS requires at least two servers to make a cluster, an can scale into the thousands.
ECOS requirement a minimum of 64GB's of ECC capable memory. As storage space is increased, memory consumption used by the vSAN will also increase by a ratio of 1GB of memory, per one 1TB storage.
ECOS requires a RAID controller that supports JBOD mode. One 2TB nVME drive for system metadata, only needed on the first two servers. The rest of the hard drives in the cluster can be SAS, SATA or nVME, a minimum of 2 are required.
Four NICs are recommended for fully redundant communications, where two NICs are dedicated 2 intra-cluster / system communications and the other two for external traffic, including guest and management VLANs. Networking services include web-based firewall, NAT/PAT engine, IPSec and Wireguard, BGP, OSPF and vXLAN, DHCP and DNS, packet rate throttling and real-time & historical metrics.
The internal NICs used for intra-cluster links do not communicate with the external world, they only use locally significant addresses. Nodes use vXLAN to link VLANs across nodes.
Cluster's only need a single external IP for management access. All other IPs are dedicated to guests and services.
